Medication Assisted Treatment

For some patients with a history of extensive alcohol, opioid or other substance use, treatment may include the use of non-addictive medication.

Naltrexone or Vivitrol may be recommended to help individuals overcome the intense cravings sometimes experienced during the first year of recovery.

Naltrexone and Vivitrol have been used to successfully manage alcohol and drug dependence since 1995. They block the effects of opioids or alcohol in the brain and take away the sensation of getting high or buzzed. As a result, Naltrexone and Vivitrol are good choices for people who have completed medically supervised withdrawal and are highly motivated to stay in recovery.
